Question: What is Northfire?: Answer: Northfire is an IRC network which also offers a custom IRC client to connect to their network.

Question: Must I use the Northfire client to connect to the Northfire network?: Answer: No, you are free to use any IRC client to connect to any of the Northfire network servers listed below:

Question: What are some basic IRC commands?: Answer:; Join a channel by typing "/join #channel".; Change your name by typing "/nick newnnick".; Quit by typing "/quit reason".; Create an action by typing "/me text".; Ignore a person by typing "/ignore nick".

Question: Do I need a password to connect to Northfire?: Answer: Yes, when you download Northfire you will be asked to register an account before usage. If you are connecting from any 3rd party client you will be asked to register your nick. After that, everytime you connect to any official channels you will be asked to identify yourself.

Question: Do I have to give my real name when I register?: Answer: No, you are free to remain anonymous. Although, if you plan to become a regular member, we would appreciate your cooperation.

Question: What is NickServ?: Answer: NickServ is the bot which you register and identify your nick(name) with.

Question: What is a Bot?: Answer: Bot is short for robot and it's a service that acts like a person, it accepts input and displays output.

Question: How can I find the entire list of Northfire operators?: Answer: When you connect to our server type "/ircops" to view the list.

Question: What happens if I get banned?: Answer: You are at the mercy of the channel operator who banned you, unless you were banned for Northfire altogether - in that case we can help - contact a staff member to the right by Email.

Question: Can I link my server to the Northfire network?: Answer: Right now we are allowing linking, to link your server come onto the server, and speak with Link.

Question: Can I donate to Northfire?: Answer: Yes, we are now accepting paypal donations to "paypal@zeldacavern.com".

Network Rules

The administrators of Northfire believe in free speech as much as anyone else but:

THIS IS A PRIVATE NETWORK.

That means free speech or anything of the such does not apply here, and WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE ACCESS TO ANYONE FOR ANY, OR NO REASON. This applies to the suspension or dropping of nicknames, channels, etc. as well.

If a channel operator bans you from thier channel for any reason, it is a channel issue and therefore cannot be dealt with by an IRC operator who does not have status in the channel. We do not deal or interfere with channel

issues, so do not come begging us! If an IRC operator is causing problems, starting trouble, or abusing thier power in any way, please feel free to send an e-mail to webmaster@zeldacavern.com, or

privately notify someone of higher status through #HelpDesk.
Do not (D)DoS Attack, OS Exploit, or issue hack threats to any users or services.
Do not harrass users via personal messages or channels.
Do not impersonate any users, IRC operators, or network services of any kind.
Excess flooding will not be tollerated and will result in an automatic termination of your connection to the server.
No pornography or cybersex related channels are allowed. However, we may allow exceptions, but ONLY with an administrator's permission and channel mode +s.
BotNets are not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to collections of Eggdrops bots and bots designed to deliver DDoS attacks. Game Bots, Trivia Bots, Bar Bots and Utility Bots are acceptable, but remember that we have restrictions on how many clients can exist from one IP.
Illegal file sharing channels of any kind are not permitted. Any of those channels found will instantly be terminated and "key users" for the channel will probably be banned from the network. Legal file sharing channels will be allowed with permission from a network administrator if they stay with mode +s. They will also be monitored.
Advertising of other servers/network or any malicious websites, at all, is prohibited. If your network has been disallowed or filtered in messages and you still want to find a way around it and have been caught before, expect a network ban your way.
Sending out any malicious files to any other user on this network is prohibited. Deliberate sending will be dealt with harshly, but if you are found to be infected by a trojan, please be smart and get a good anti-virus. If something is not written in these rules, it doesn't mean you can do it. Use common sense, or ask an IRC operator.
